<p>PURPOSE: To provide a method/device for logging the state information on a printer by means of an interactive network substrate that is connected between the printer and a LAN. CONSTITUTION: A memory is connected to an interactive network substrate and used to store the received data on a printer. The start and end of a print job index are added to the print data and then sent to the printer. A processor 216 is also connected to the network substrate, so that a printer state request is transmitted to and received from the printer at a 1st prescribed interval (every minute, etc.). Furthermore, the processor 216 calculates the printer state statistics at a 2nd prescribed interval (every day, etc.) based on the received printer state data and also on the start and end of the print job index. Finally, the processor 216 stores the calculated printer state statistics in the memory.</p> |
