The ram (22), coupled to a press plate, is guided on the press frame (12) in its stroke direction (20). A toggle lever drive (16) has toggle levers (34, 36), one (36) hinged to the ram and another one (34) to a counter-bearing (38). The toggle levers are interconnected by a toggle joint (32), coacting with a drive (14). The toggle lever drive is movable in the stroke direction and arrestable on the frame by an adjuster (18), engaging the counter-bearing, for adjusting the ram stroke position. The adjuster has a screw drive (48), rotatable about an axis parallel to the stroke direction.
