The invention provides an apparatus which captures and manipulates the movement of surgical needles as they pass through tissue. The apparatus has a removable gripping body (51) which is designed to rest against the tissue. This gripping body (51) has sufficient resistance to grip a needle. The apparatus (50) also has a component which manipulates the movement of the gripping body (51). This manipulating component has a ledge (52) surface or opening (70) defined thereon or therein. The apparatus also has a fastening component (64). At least one end (66) of the fastening component is secured to the gripping body (51). The fastening component secures the removable gripping body to the manipulating component. The fastening component includes a flexible and resilient latching member (68). |
