The invention relates to a process for estimating disparities between images forming a stereoscopic image. The process comprises, in a first step, establishing the same hierarchical decomposition of each monoscopic image (Id(t), Ig(t)), for each resolution level by forming at least three pyramids of images having increasing resolutions, one pyramid of low frequency images and two pyramids of high frequency images according to horizontal and vertical directions of the images; in a second step, estimating a disparity (D) at the coarser resolution level and perfecting the estimation in each level progressively as the resolution increases. Application in processing special effects in stereoscopic images. |
