PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of life dimensions by providing a reference groove as the reference of life dimensions by an optical means. CONSTITUTION:A reference groove 9 is formed across a nonmagnetic insulator 6 and a magnetic material substrate 2 in the boundary part between a groove part 5, where the nonmagnetic insulator 6 is packed, and the magnetic material substrate 2 in the direction of a magnetic head front end 8 by an optical means such as photolithography or the like, and a nonmagnetic material or a conductive material is packed in the reference groove 9. The reference groove 9 as the reference of life dimensions and a mark 12 as the standard for polishing work of the magnetic head front end surface 8 are formed together by the optical means, and the positioning accuracy of them is improved. The magnetic head front end surface 8 is polished while seeing the mark 12 to attain high- accuracy life dimensions H. Since the reference groove 9 is formed simultaneously with formation of a coil groove 7, the production process is simplified. |
