PURPOSE:To perform an image recording having high quality with a high S/N ratio by sticking toner selectively on a transfer member with a force generated by an electric field which operates between ions and electrostatically charged toner. CONSTITUTION:An electrically charged toner layer 11 formed on the surface of a sleeve 32 is conveyed to a position where the toner is in contact with or nearby a transfer member 5 according to the rotation of a developing roller 3 shown by an arrow 7. The member 5, on the other hand, is supplied as shown by an arrow 8 so that it contacts the layer 11. Further, a positive and a negative ion flow generated by corona discharging between the corona wire 61 and the case 62 of an ion control head device 6 arranged below the member 51 are controlled in the direction of main scanning lines with the electric field established between a control electrode 65 and a recording electrode 63 according to image information to be recorded, thereby forming a toner image on the member 51. In this case, when the reverse surface of the member 5 is charged electrostatically with negative ions, a toner image 12 is formed on the top surface of the member 5. When it is charged with positive ions, on the other hand, the toner of the toner layer 11 is repelled. |
