PURPOSE:To prevent a brake locking of an auxiliary brake device even in a low mu road running condition, by providing a controller to reduce the braking force when it is decided that the braking force of the auxiliary brake device is made too large depending on an inference means to infer the amount of the friction resistance between a running road surface and a driving wheels. CONSTITUTION:A controller 14 in an auxiliary brake device 10 decides the release level n according to the value of an inferred road surface mu from a road surface mu sensor 13. When the release level n is the value zero, for example, the operations of an exhaust brake 16, an electromagnetic retarter 17, and a power tardy member 18 are maintained. As a result, the braking force is set to the sum of these values, (F1+F2+F3). And when the release level n is the value 1, only the operation of the electromagnetic retarder 17 is released, and the braking force is reduced to the value (F1+F3). Furthermore, when the release level n is the value 2, only the operation of the exhaust brake 16 is maintained, and the braking force is reduced to the value F1. And when the n is the value 3, all the operations are released.
