PURPOSE: To achieve secure detection without using other parts by igniting cylinders including those without having injection in a starting process of an external ignition type internal combustion engine, and detect a leaky injection valve when there is a specified difference between a first rotation number before the first ignition and in a starting stage and a second rotation number. CONSTITUTION: In a four-stroke internal combustion engine, synchronization is conducted after starting, and the first ignition is then made. Fuel in a fuel container 10 is injected by a power fuel pump 11 through a fuel filter 12 and a combustion accumulator 13 from an injection valve 15 close to a demanded cylinder 18 to an intake pipe 10 to be ignited by a spark plug 20. At this time, it is controlled by a control device, and an average rotation number is continuously detected, so it is determined that there is leak when the detected average rotation number immediately after the first ignition output exceeds a threshold value. If it doesn't, similar determination is made for the detected average rotation number after that. |
