The apparatus according to the invention comprises a frame, two folding guide members which are connected to the frame and extend spaced apart parallel to one another, means for feeding the web forward in centred position in the longitudinal direction of the folding guide members, means for folding lateral-edge sections of the web around the folding guide members, a pair of guide rollers which are positioned at the end of, and transversely to, the folding guide members and between which the web with folded-over edge sections is guided, and a coiling device immediately downstream thereof. The folding guide members are formed by parallel edges of a plate-type element over which the web is guided.
