The invention relates to a method for guiding the movement of a vehicle, in particular a stairlift, by the remote detection of a displacement out of an at-rest position of at least one sensor part which is connected to the vehicle, and decelerating the vehicle if the displacement detected exceeds a defined threshold. The invention also relates to a device for guiding the movement of a vehicle, in particular a stairlift, which is provided with at least one sensor part which is connected to the vehicle, and means for the remote detection of a displacement of the sensor part out of an at-rest position, which detection means are connected, in such a manner as to provide a signal, to means for decelerating the vehicle.
