The application relates to an invention which can be fitted to a filling nozzle. The invention prevents subsequent leaking of fuel from the filling nozzle after the shut-off device in the filling nozzle has slammed shut, either automatically or non-automatically. The problem with current filling nozzles is that residual fuel can flow out of the filling nozzle after the nozzle has been shut off. Generally it can be assumed that this residual fuel is spilt, with all the environmental problems this causes. The application describes three solutions, namely venting, ventilation and shut-off. Re venting: the filling nozzle is emptied more rapidly than normal owing to natural venting. Re ventilation: the filling nozzle is emptied more rapidly than normal owing to injection of air. Re shut-off: the outflow orifice of the filling nozzle is fitted with a terminal shut-off valve which is optionally operated, either via the control lever (trigger) of the filling nozzle or by fuel pressure.
