The device according to the invention comprises a reservoir for adhesive and further comprises a doctor blade (doctor knife) which adjoins the reservoir and whose profile is such that the adhesive is applied in the strips which are each of variable height, the height of the strips preferably decreasing in an outward direction, such as a profile having a centre profile section which keeps part of the face free from the adhesive, and adjacent longitudinal profile sections whose profile depth decreases from the centre profile section. The invention also relates to a doctor blade for this device.
