摘要 |
The description relates to novel alloys with the general formula ANiy-xBx for the reversible electrochemical storage of hydrogen which contain silicon and have the following advantage over the prior art AB5 alloys: high reversible specific capacity; long cyclic useful life; metallurgically simple production; economical because they contain no cobalt; easy and rapid activation up to full capacity owing to greater nickel enrichment at the surface. Electrodes made of this alloy can directly replace the cadmium electrode in a prior art Ni/Cd cell. Voltage, construction and manufacture may be derived from Ni/Cd technology. Moreover, such an electrochemical cell has the following advantages: more stored energy in terms of both weight and volume; very high cyclic useful life; no dentrite growth; no "memory" effect; insensitivity to overcharging and total discharge; environmentally acceptable because they contain no toxic heavy metals. |
