The method according to the invention consists in fitting the objects to be monitored (1) with a transmitter (2) controlled by a detection device so as to be able to change from a standby state to a triggered state in which it transmits an alarm signal containing an identification message, following detection of prohibited use of the object (1), and in placing receivers (R1, R2, Rn) in the area monitored, which are able to transmit, to a central unit (UC), following the reception of an alarm signal transmitted by an object (1), information relating to this object (1) and to its position at the moment when reception occurs.
