The invention relates to the routing of communications in a packet switching network. It relates to a method of centralised updating of a collection of routing tables associated with each packet switch. The collection comprises a table assigned to each other packet switch, and the table comprises a number of elements corresponding to the number of links of the relevant switch, each element assigned to a link containing an item of routing information relating to one possible path between itself and the other switch. During a modification, a packet switch modifies its tables and transmits an information item representing the modifications which it has made. Application to packet switching networks.
