For the securing of a bearing 8 on or in a machine part, recesses 2 are incorporated into the machine part in the peripheral region of the bearing 8, whereupon peripherally spaced deformation portions 3 are left. These portions are axially deformed by sleeve 10 after installation of the bearing 8. Material (14, Fig 5) then flows radially against the bearing 8 and is deflected as a surplus 13 into the recesses 2 thereby securing the bearing. The seating surface of the bearing may be shorter in the axial direction than the seating surface of the machine part, and material may be forced radially, 16, to provide an axial location for the bearing.
