The conventional surfboard is converted into a teaching board by strapping buoyancy aids (4, 5) to each side of the board near the mast fitting. The increased support prevents the board from capsizing during teaching. The buoyancy aids are secured by straps and can be removed to return the board to its original state. The buoyancy aids can be inflatable for a compact storage. The amount of buoyancy is adjustable to follow the progress of the pupil. This is achieved by separate buoyant shapes attached by the straps.
