The filter unit (25) with appts. (which is at least partially immersed) for removal of sludge from a salt bath (1) is connected at its top to a rise pipe (23) through which the bath liquid to be cleaned is conveyed for example, by means of compresses air in the direction of the filter unit. The unit is characterised by the fact that the pack (10) of filter fabric surrounded by a basket or frame (14) consists of a non-ferrous metal, preferably an alloy of aluminium, nickel or titanium.
