Analysing a sample by capillary electrophoresis with improved regularity of migration time comprises (a) dividing the analysis time into two or more time segments; (b) applying to the capillary high voltage power in a first mode during a first time segment to effect sepn. of the sample; and (c) applying to the capillary high voltage power in a second and different mode during a subsequent time segment. Also claimed is the incorporation of a reference peak in the sepn. medium or sample soln. which may be used to provide on line feedback control.
