PURPOSE:To provide an inexpensive hygroscopic nonwoven fabric alternative to natural leather. CONSTITUTION:The objective nonwoven fabric comprises 10-50wt.% of highly water-absorbing fibers >=15wt.% in hygroscopicity at 30 deg.C under a relative humidity of 80%, with the constituent fibers mutually bonded through a rubber binder; or 10-50wt.% of the fibers, with the interlining >=20% in stretchability, and N having a stretch modulus of >=10%. It is preferable that the highly water- absorbing fibers be produced by copolymerization between (A) a carboxyl group- bearing monomer, (B) hydroxyl and/or amino group(s)-bearing monomer crosslinkable through reaction with the above carboxyl group and (C) a carboxylic alkali metal salt group-bearing monomer, followed by crosslinking. |
