SEMICONDUCTOR DEVICE PROVIDED WITH PROGRAMMABLE ELEMENT

PURPOSE: To provide a semiconductor device with a programmable element that requires only a small chip area. CONSTITUTION: A semiconductor device has a programmable element. The programmable element has both a semiconductor region 4 and a conductor region 6 being doped that are separated by at least one portion of an insulation layer 5. The conductor region 6 has a material that is suited for forming a rectification junction 8 along with the material of the semiconductor region 4. To achieve a relatively improved conduction connection for the semiconductor region 4, a contact region 3 is provided at the element. Also, the contact region 3 is provided at a side that is away from the insulation layer 5 of the semiconductor region 4 and is separated from the insulation layer 5 by the semiconductor region 4. In both the semiconductor region 4 and the contact region 3, the boundary of both side parts is formed by an insulation region 7.
