<p>PURPOSE: To reduce sulfur oxides emissions in gas-like products generated by combustion by humidifying flue gases containing entrained fuel and an absorbent material in a reactor and forming a membrane of an alkali solution on the absorbent material. CONSTITUTION: A spray nozzle assembly 58 is disposed on the upper part of the reactor and is extended over the entire width of the reactor to introduce atomized water into the reactor. Further, a plurality of louvers 48a, 48b are arranged at the upper part of sidewalls 36c and 36d, a plurality of openings 50a and 50b are arranged at the lower part of sidewalls 36c and 36d, and the fuel gases are made to flow from plenum chambers 44a and 44b, and plenum chambers 46a and 46b to the reactor respectively. The spray nozzle 60 disperses water into many water particulates, which evaporate and humidify the fuel gases. This is a great help in forming the alkali solution membrane of calcium hydroxide on the surface of limestone, which is the absorbent material, in cooperation with the lowered temperature of the mixture.</p> |
