摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To conduct accurate inter-vehicle distance detection without depending on outside environment by detecting a vehicle posture by photographing a guide line by means of a short distance camera, supposing at the same time the exist ing position of the preceding vehicle by recognizing the road situation of the vehicle perimeter from the present position and map data. CONSTITUTION:The white line of a road is recognized by means of data from a short distance camera 20, and the present position is recognized on the basis of data from a GPS receiver 40, and at the same time the road situation is recognized by means of data from map data 70. On the basis of data such as these, the advance direction of one's own vehicle is surmized, and the pointing direction of a milliwave radar 30 is directed to the existing position of the preceding vehicle, and accurate inter-vehicle distance detection is attained. Also in a case in which the field of vision is excellent, the direction of the preceding vehicle is detected by using a long distance camera 10. Thus, even in a case in which the front preceding vehicle can not be caught by means of a camera due to rain or fog or the like, a direction in which the preceding vehicle is to exist, can be surmized with high precision.</p>
