PURPOSE:To enhance battery performance by homogenizing a hydrogen storage alloy through heat treatments, thereby preventing variation in the charge and discharge cycle of the battery and reduction in battery life. CONSTITUTION:A metal oxide-hydrogen battery has a positive electrode made of a metal oxide, a negative electrode composed mainly of powders of a rare earth hydrogen storage alloy, and an alkaline electrolyte. After it is made sure that a requirement is met that the specific surface area of the alloy powders is 0.2m<2>/g or less by BET method when the alloy is heat treated in an inert gas at 950-1100 deg.C and part of it is sampled and ground for hydrogenation under a hydrogen pressure of 5-10 atom. at 2-30 deg.C, the remaining alloy is mechanically ground and a negative electrode containing its powders is used. |
