The lid or hatch (1) is hinged on the arms (2, 2' and 5, 5'). The lower ends of the arms (2, 2') are pivoted at the points (2b, 2b') on the nuts (3a, 3a') which are driven by reversible electric motors (4, 4') along screws (3, 3'). The two sets of arms are symmetrically disposed about the centre line of the vehicle and the steadying arm (6) is on the centre line.The lid (1) moves in conjunction with a second lid (not shown). The two lids covering the passenger compartment and their movement are linked to the folding of the steering column, controlled and monitored by sensors and a computer.
