CONTROLLER FOR QUANTITY OF GENERATED ENCODING INFORMATION FOR DYNAMIC IMAGE

PURPOSE:To prevent overflow/underflow even at the time of processing state in real time by receiving an information generating quantity of a number of a prescribed block before the current block from a variable length coding section and calculating a predicted value of a virtual buffer quantity so as to discriminate the possibility of underflow/overflow. CONSTITUTION:Data coded by a variable coding section 3 are fed to an input buffer 7 of a decoder 8 via an output buffer 4. A virtual buffer quantity arithmetic operation section 5 calculates a virtual buffer quantity predicted value of the buffer 7 based on the information of a prescribed number of preceding blocks with respect to a current block from the coding section 3 and controls the coding section 3 and a quantization section 2 via an overflow control decision section 10 and an underflow control decision section 9 respectively based on the result of calculation. Thus, the coding generating quantity taking a delay into account when motion picture coding is executed in a real time is controlled to prevent production of overflow/underflow of the buffer.
