PURPOSE:To provide an apparatus and a method for inspecting the appearance of a bottle seal which can automatically and effectively detect a defect of the seal. CONSTITUTION:In a method for inspecting the appearance of a bottle seal 3 for soft drink, etc., a ring-shaped illuminator 4 having a bore size larger than that of a bottle is arranged above the seal 3, a plurality of TV cameras 5, 6a-6d are arranged on a periphery of the seal 3, and image processor 8 is mounted. A reflected image of the seal 3 incident to the cameras 5, 6a-6d is processed to a binary image by the processor 8 to obtain an incident light image of the seal 3, a vertical image component view of the image is then formed, a horizontal image component view 14 of the vertical image component view is further formed, and the view 14 is compared with a pattern image previously stored in the processor to decide propriety of the appearance of the seal 3. |
