PURPOSE: To provide an improved emergency cooling system for boiling water reactor. CONSTITUTION: The emergency cooling system of a boiling water reactor(BWR) comprising a reactor pressure vessel 10 in an annular dry well 14 and an annular wet well 16 for receiving the dry well and having a pressure suppressing liquid pool 20 has a containment condenser 26 having an inlet 34 for receiving the heat transfer fluids 30, 32 and a non-condensing material in gas phase, and condensing at least a part of the heat transfer fluids, a first outlet 44 for returning the compressed part of the heat transfer fluids to the pressure vessel 10, and a second outlet 48 for returning the residue of the heat transfer fluids and the non-condensing material to the dry well 14; and a water pool 24 for removing the heat from the condenser by conduction.
