The lamp assembly has at least one lamp (112) associated with an attenuator that reduces the optical output. The lamp is carried in a standard lamp holder for 21 watt automotive bulbs, and the attenuated light output is at the level of a 5 watt bulb.The light is attenuated by means of a lens (131) under the main lamp cover. The attenuation is achieved by a dimpled surface, a smoked surface or a painted surface on the lens.
