PURPOSE:To simply detect the position of a gap by deforming an image picked up by a magnetic head successively obliquely so that a gap is extended in the direction rectangular to a scanning direction. CONSTITUTION:This head measuring instrument has a controlling computer 6 for processing a measured result and a CPU 7 built in the computer 6 executes a prescribed processing program 8 to control the operation of an image processor 5 and process the measured result. The processor 5 enters a video signal SV1 outputted front an image pickup device 4 to a frame memory 10 through an A/D converting circuit 9 to store a magnetic head pickup image consisting of an image G to be processed. In the processor 5, a deformed image obtained by shifting the stored image G so that a gap is extended in the direction rectangular to the scanning direction is processed by an image processing unit 11 to detect the azimuth angle or the like of the magnetic head. |
