PURPOSE:To obtain a toner having a relatively small particle diameter and satisfactory cleanability by imparting ruggedness to the surfaces of spherical resin particles by swelling and spray drying. CONSTITUTION:Spherical resin particles consisting of a resin and a colorant are swollen and spray-dried to form recesses in the surfaces of the resin. particles. The resin particles are produced by a wet method. This wet method may be any of a method including a polymn. process such as a suspension or emulsion polymn. method and a granulation method not including a polymn. process such as a suspension granulation method. In order to swell the resin particles, they are dispersed in a dispersive medium which swells the resin without dissolving it or they are dispersed in a nonsolvent system which does not dissolve the resin while partially leaving a solvent contg. the resin dissolved in a process for producing the resin particles by a suspension method not including a polymn. process.
