PURPOSE: To obtain a deep and narrow sensitization of a silver halide to 1R irradiation by providing at least one silver halide emulsion layer, spectrally sensitized to the 1R irradiation by a specific dye. CONSTITUTION: This photographic silver halide element has a supporting body and at least one silver halide emulsion layer. The silver halide emulsion layer is spectrally sensitized to the 1R irradiation by a tricarbocyanine dye having a structure expressed by formula. In the formula, each of Z1 and Z2 independently expresses an atom necessary to complete a thiazol nucleus or an oxazol nucleus. Z3 expresses an atom necessary to complete a 5-membered nitrogen- containing aromatic ring. Q expresses an atom necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered carbocyclic ring, each of R1 and R2 independently expresses an alkyl group. X<-> is an anion, and (n) is an integer of 1-2 and (n) is 1 when the dye forms an intermolecular salt.
