PURPOSE:To devise the method such that the motion compensation/non-motion compensation inter-frame coding, or the forward/reverse/ two-way motion compensation inter-frame coding, and the in-frame coding/inter-frame coding are discriminated in one step and the circuit configuration for the discrimination is simplified. CONSTITUTION:The coding mode is discriminated by a 1st processing step S1 discriminating whether or not a coded frame is an in-frame coding frame, a 2nd processing step S2 executing the operation of a sum of absolute value differences in each coding mode, a 3rd processing step S3 applying weight function operation to each parameter obtained by the 2nd processing step, a 4th processing step S4 comparing the magnitude of coefficients in each mode, and a 5th processing step S5 discriminating a coding mode minimizing each coefficient based on the comparison result by the 4th processing step to be the selected coding mode. |
