The channel is made in sections (1), each with a base (1a) and two side walls (1b, 1c) which have their upper edges (1d, 1e) shaped to support a top panel (10) e.g. in the form of a grille. The edges (1d, 1e) are reinforced with elongated metal strips, (4,5) which can be embedded in the concrete. The inner surface of the channel section, including the base, side walls and metal reinforcing elements, has a covering layer which is impermeable to liquids and corrosion resistant, e.g. a high density polyethylene which can be reinforced with glass fibres, applied in a covering layer (101). The metal reinforcing elements can be separately protected by a coating of zinc and/or an impermeable and non-corroding material. Additional transverse sealing strips can be used over joints between sections.
