In a measuring device (10) for detecting pollution in the fresh air fed especially into a vehicle passenger compartment, the sensor unit (17) arranged on a support (16) is surrounded by a gas-permeable screen (19). The screen (19) is set at a distance (d) from the sensor unit (17) such that the eddy caused on the inside of the screen (19) by gas flows on its outside cannot reach the sensor unit (17). The pollutant gases are diffused by the screen through to the sensor unit (17). The measurement signals are thus unaffected by any errors caused by the flow. The pollutant gases in the gas flow can thus be rapidly detected without any interference.
