METHODS FOR INDUCING LONG-TERM IMMUNOLOGICAL NON-RESPONSIVENESS TO ALLOGRAFTS

The present invention provides methods of inducing long-term non-responsiveness to an allograft even in the absence of immunosuppressive agents. The methods include interfering with the interaction of VLA-4 of the allograft recipient and VCAM-1 of the allograft. This can be accomplished for instance by administration of an antibody with the same effective specificity as mAb M/K-2 for a time period and in an amount sufficient to induce long-term non-responsiveness to the allograft.
