<p>A mechanical torque indicator apparatus (20) for use in gauging and indicating the magnitude of torsional force exerted on a driven member (18) by a torque drive member (16) includes an elongated torsion member (26) defining a longitudinal axis and having first and second axial ends. The torsion member (26) is supported on the torque drive member (16) so that torsion loading of the driven member (18) is transmitted through the torsion member (26). The relative rotational displacement of the axial ends of the torsion member (26) is converted by the apparatus (20) into bi-directional linear displacement carried out within a plane transverse to the longitudinal axis. This linear displacement actuates an indicator (38) mounted on the torsion member (26) for providing an indication of the applied torque.</p> |
