Processing colour line scan camera signals for surface inspection

A line-scanning camera (20) of the type used in quality control monitoring applications has three separate sensors (22-24) for red, green and blue colours. The sensor outputs are digitised (4-6) to form a 24-bit address to access a table-storing memory (10). The memory contains colour classifications that have been learned in a training phase. The information is coded in a 1-out-of-8 form and each single bit for each 8 bit group is transmitted to one of the associated 8-bit computers (11-19). The system can be expanded to accept input from three different types of line scan cameras.
