The novelty is that a process to separate oily residues incident in vehicle and engineering activities is that the residues contain: oil-soaked sweepings and moist oil-binding agents including sawdust, oil-soaked cleaning rags and cleaning wadding, used oil filters and small metal components, plastic components.The process incorporates the following steps: (a) the oil-soaked sweepings and oil-binding agents are removed using vibrating sieve, (b) the residual fractions are charged into a separator in which the lighter items such as cleaning rags and wadding are sepd. from the heavy items, (c) the residual heavy items are sepd. into ferrous and non-ferrous by a magnet, (d) the residual waste matter is sepd. onto a high speed conveyor belt into used oil filters and other waste.The oil filter housings are cut open to release filter material and ferrous components. The filter insert material is placed with the lighter material such as rags and wadding.
