An expansion joint (10) for connecting sections of a duct (14, 15) carrying high temperature gases includes upstream (12) and downstream (14) frame portions connected to the ducts (1a, 1b), a peripheral fabric belt (32) connecting the frame portions (12, 14), and thermal insulation (52) positioned between the belt (32) and a primary internal liner (48) mounted on a frame portion (21). A thermal insulation pillow (52) is positioned between the primary internal liner (48) and the flowpath, and a thermal panel (70) made up of floating segments is positioned between the insulation pillow (52) and the flowpath. At least the upstream frame portion (12) includes a conical member (22) extending at an oblique angle to the inner and outer sides of the frame portion (12). In the illustrated embodiments, a secondary liner (50) is mounted on the opposite frame portion (14) and projects toward the frame portion (12) carrying the primary liner (48), the primary internal liner (48) being positioned between the secondary internal liner (50) and the gas flowpath. |
