The drum (12) is rotatable in a frame (10) with bearing supports (11) by a driving motor (29) and gearing (33) mounted on a transverse carrier (34). Workpieces to be galvanised are transferred from a container (14) which is gripped and emptied by a device (13) on an arm (15) pivoted on the frame at a distance from the axis (A). A cover (16) for the container is lockable in its closed position by a hydraulically or pneumatically driven slider (48), and in its open position provides a chute for the workpieces to be loaded into the drum.
