Article of fluorine-contg polymer with improved water repellence is produced by treating the polymers surface with a fluorine-contg. gas after roughening of the surface.Also claimed is an appts. for use in a washing process and which is made of PTFE whose surface has been treated with a fluorine-contg. gas; and a PTFE article with improved water-repellence produced by treating it at between its m pt and its decomposition temp.The treatment of the surface is a mechanical or electrical process. The polymer is treated with the gas during heating, pref. at 100-300 deg.C. The article is pref. of PTFE. The washing appts. is treated with the gas at a temp. between the usual temp. and 250 deg.C, and with a gas concn. of 1.33-26.6 kPa (10-200 Torr). The appts. is a support for washing semiconductor chips or a glass plate for a liq. crystal display, or a guide roll for washing a glass plate for a liq. crystal display.
