Deviations in the length from a normal value in a cold link body (1) are determined, and corresp. deviation signals are fed to a control system for correction of at least an electrode jaw length. The electrode jaw pressure force against the tensioned link body is controlled so that in the final stage of the heating of the body, this is compressed by a predetermined length plus/minus the measured deviation in the body length in the cold state. The deviation in length in the cold link body is determined with the aid of a position indicator (4) placed on a displaceably located tension jaw (2) for link bodies. The electrode jaw control system incorporates a position indicator (9) applied on the displaceable electrode jaw (6).
