PURPOSE:To provide a novel method capable of synthesizing composite strontium hexatitanate fibers excellent in heat resistance, heat insulating property, dielectric property and chemical resistance. CONSTITUTION:Oxides of titanium, potassium and strontium or compds. of titanium, potassium and strontium forming oxides by heating are mixed in (1:0.10:0.10) to (1:0.5:0.5) molar ratio of TiO2:K2O:SrO and 20-40mol% of this mixture is further mixed with 80-60mol% K2MoO4 or K2O-MoO3 mixture as a flux and heated to >=900 deg.C to form a melt. A fibrous material based on a laminar potassium tetratitanate structure is synthesized by slowly cooling the melt and part of interlaminar potassium ions are extracted by acid treatment to impart a compsn. represented by (K2-xSrx)Ti6O13 (0.5<=x<=1.0). The fibrous material is then heated to >=1,000 deg.C to form a tunnel structure and the objective strontium hexatitanate [(K2-xSrx)Ti6O13] fibers are obtd. |
