A plate-type heat exchanger 5 comprises a close-packed stack of metal plates which may be of identical form, alternate plates in the stack being turned through 180 DEG . The major parts of the longitudinal edges of the plates may be formed with upright flanges 18a with inwardly-extending extensions 18b. One end of each plate may be formed with an upright flange 18c and inward extension 18d. The flanges and extensions 18 - d serve as plate stack spacers. Gaps 19, 20 and the non-flanged ends define openings for air flows 6 and 7. Some of the gaps may be blanked off and further gaps (for example 41, Figure 4) provided. The heat exchanger 5, (and modifications thereof) have particular use in air ventilating units, a number of which are described and illustrated in the accompanying disclosure. Strips of material may be provided instead of flanges 18a - d. The inlet and outlet for flow 6 also flow 7 are spaced from each other so that the heat exchanger can be located in the wall of a building. <IMAGE> |
