PURPOSE:To improve reliability when at least one of a plurality of kinds of ink becomes hard to eject steadily in a recording with a plurality of inks in different densities in the same color by a method wherein the printing is continued with the ink of the remaining kinds. CONSTITUTION:In the ink jet recording method described herein, a carriage 501 is equipped with an ink jet unit comprising a plurality of ejecting port arrays that eject inks in black, cyan, magenta and yellow, each of which is in two different densities. Heat-generating elements incorporated in the ink ejecting ports are driven on recording signals in accordance with timing read by an encoder, and images are formed on a material on which recording is made with ink drops ejected in a sequence, in which the ink in high density comes first and the ink in low density comes next. In the case where a judgement is made that at least one kind of ink becomes unable to be ejected steadily, the rate of use of each of a plurality of inks determined by a distribution device is changed, and the recording is continued with the inks of the remaining kinds. |
