PURPOSE:To improve the performance of an apparatus and to reduce the size of the apparatus by gripping a sample when a stock vice is put on the other side of a polishing part and enabling a reciprocating polishing work for the sample when the stuck vice makes reverse turning motion to the polishing part side. CONSTITUTION:A stock vice device 4 for gripping a sample W and a polishing part 6 are disposed adjacently to each other on a machine table 3. The stock vice device 4 is provided with a reversing mechanism 5 for turning the stock vice device to the polishing part 6 side and reversely turning the same to the opposite position and with a reciprocating mechanism for forcing the stock vice device 4 to reciprocate in the lateral direction on the polishing part 6 side.
