PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer having a narrow particle size distribution and suitable voids by dissolving a solid polysilazane ceramic precursor polymer being soluble in an organic solvent and having a specified number-average molecular weight in an organic solvent and spray-drying the solution in a low- humidity gas. CONSTITUTION:A solid polysilazane ceramic precursor being soluble in an organic solvent and having a number-average molecular weight of about 1200 to about 10000 [at least one member selected from among a perhydropolysilazane, a polyborosilazane, a polyorgano(hydro)silazane, etc., and a thermosetting copolymer thereof with a thermoplastic silicon-containing polymer] is dissolved in an organic solvent, and the solution is spraydried in a low-humidity gas. The solvent is instantaneously removed from the solution to leave a granular ceramic precursor polymer having a narrow particle size distribution and suitable voids. The granular polymer can be easily stored or transported, and if necessary, it can redissolved in a solvent relatively rapidly. By molding this polymer, a high-density ceramic precursor molding can stably be obtained. |
