There is described a process for the recovery of iodine from a composition containing iodine and/or iodide. Any iodine present is reduced to iodide, the iodide is then separated off from the solution by means of a selectively absorbing anion exchanger, the iodide separated off is eluted, the solution containing the eluted iodide is treated with a cation exchanger and the remaining solution is then admixed with H2O2 + H2SO4. The iodine formed is precipitated and can then be separated off in crystalline form. The process is, in particular, also suitable for the separation from solutions containing organic constituents, e.g. organonitrogen compounds. |
