PURPOSE: To provide an explosion proof mat and a method of manufacturing the same, which is reduced in weight with low manufacturing cost but also exerts fully high protection performance against shrapnels and explosive pressure of bullets, mines, bombs and aerial torpedoes. CONSTITUTION: A mat comprises a material, especially rubber, whose matrix is flexible when cured with a rigid synthetic sheet 3, which is set in parallel with the main plane of a wall portion, being fit between two inner layers of textile. At least one layer 2, impregnated with material forming the matrix and formed with impact-resistant textile, is cast into a mold having a shape conforming to that of a wall portion 1 of a motor vehicle. Furthermore, at least one cut composite sheet 3 is put into the layer 2 of the textile, and the composite sheet 3 in the mold is impregnated with a material for forming the matrix, followed by covering it with a plurality of layers formed with the impact-resistant textile. After the matrix material is cured, the explosion proof mat is taken out of the mold.
